230501 Routine

Follow a daily routine.

In my solitary life I have found having a routine is important to get me through the day. My routine consists of doing things about the apartment, cleaning, vacuuming, rearranging furniture, writing, taking walks outside, practicing yoga, doing exercises, making up my bed even though no one else sees it, meditating several times a day, preparing my meals and most importantly, prayer. A few days ago I replaced the blinds on my windows, anything to stay busy. That is the key I have found to living alone.

I believe the worst thing for an elderly person living alone is to sit down and do nothing. Before they know it, they can no longer do anything but sit all day. That is when all the mistakes and the horrors suffered in younger days creep into one’s brain and begin to stress a person. Any good doctor will tell you that stress is the real cause of illness for many people. Stress eats at your insides and makes you ill. Elderly people do not need to have illness added to all of their other problems.

For senior citizens, find your routine, follow it and your days will be better. One last thing I forgot to mention above is set your bedtime and follow it. Don’t eat food for 3 hours before sleep and try not to think about things when you want to sleep. That is my worst problem. I lay down and close my eyes at night and my mind goes crazy thinking about anything and everything I have done or dread having to do. I have not found a solution for that yet. I’m still a work in progress.

These are my opinions and anyone can tell you opinions are like armpits. they all stink!
