One thing I forgot to say in my post about Windows computers was this:

Your Windows 10 machine will still be updated until early 2024. 2024 will be the last year for updates and of course that is subject to change. If you have been using Windows 7 operating system, you have not had security updates since 2020. That also goes for windows 8, while 8.1 will get updates until January 2023. If you have anything older than windows 7, you have been in shark infested waters for years now, running on luck if you haven’t been hacked yet.

Something that was famous in Japan in 1965 and you never heard of it.

Guam, Wake island and Midway islands were very isolated, leaving thousands of young sailors stuck in a place with little to do for recreation. Our navy knew that, so what they did was fly a planeload of sailors, different groups on a regular basis to somewhere where they could have some fun. For sailors on Guam, they were flown to Japan for a few days of liberty before going back to their otherwise mundane life.
On Guam our squadron had as part of our regular radar squadron, a standard Super Constellation plane like the ones TWA flew all over the states in the fifties and sixties.

You can see from the picture they were huge planes. Note the landing gear is heavy duty. The tractor-trailer backed up to the plane gives you an idea of the size of the plane. One morning our squadron's super constellation took off from Guam to fly to Japan with every seat filled with young sailors. The plane arrived over Japan in the late afternoon. The pilot was given landing instructions and when he punched the controls to position the landing gear. The nose landing gear showed a warning that the gear was not safely locked. The pilot got out of the landing pattern and recycled the landing gear again, with no luck. He got back into the pattern, radioed the control tower he was coming in with an emergency landing. He then got on the plane’s intercom system and gave these instructions to the passengers. "As soon as the main landing gear touches the runway surface, unbuckle your seat belts and more quickly to the rear of the plane as far back as you can go." Those sailors had no problem following those orders. The packing of sailors in the rear of the plane was enough to set the tail section down on the runway and the plane skidded, ass end down to a safe landing. Local artists in Japan made hundreds of paintings on silk showing the landing. I kind of wish now that I had bought one. .

The DMV and the Eye Doctor
3 days ago I failed the eye test at the DMV and it struck me as funny that they did not take my license away, but allowed me to continue to drive. I was pleased when I came home, called Joyce’s eye doctor and the people there had found a way to get me in the next day. I was quite jovial when I arrived, kidding with the receptionist, the assistants and the doctor. He was testing something when I had to have my chin on a bar as he was shining bright lights into my eyes (I’ve had my chin on a bar before, but it wasn’t in an eye doctor’s exam room, it was in a casino.) I was joking with him when I spoke using a song reference. He laughed and told me his kids are always telling him to stop with his song references. It seems that me and the doc have something in common. Riddle me that one Batman! He has degrees on everything lining the walls of his office rooms and as for me, well not so many, or any for that manner.
