210706 The Sentinel, Carbon=Life

Carbon, Life and Loss

Humans are mostly made up of carbon, hydrogen and Oxygen, their are other elements too. Almost everything on earth has carbon in it, even plastic. The irony here is that our lowly house shoes have some if not most of the same things we are made of. We are lucky enough to somehow have a brain in us. As I meditate every day I often look at my house shoes and think how much we are alike. That kind of takes the wind out of a man’s sails.

So here I am at 75, just days from 76 and I am realizing I have taken another step down again. By that I mean I have lost more abilities, strength, stamina and coordination. This began when I was 55 I had my first step down. It was not a big step, but rather a small one. At 65 it was a bigger step and now at 75 it has been even gigantic! I know that 85 will not be a step down; it will be a step off a cliff, assuming I ever get that far and hoping I never do get there. There’s an old song, “The Old Gray Mare She ain’t What She Used To Be,” well I’m not an old gray mare, just an old gray man, but the horse shoe does fit!

  1. There is joy in life; sometimes we have to alter the activities that provide that joy, however simple things in life never fall to amaze me.

    1. You are correct! It is the simple things that bring us joy and happiness comes from within, not from without.
