The Sentinel, Rich 201104

Most people measure wealth and success by the dollars they have made. Dollars are something that can be measured, but dollars do not translate into happiness as is easy to see by the the numbers of broken families and divorces by the wealthy, successful people.

Joyce feels rich when the cupboards are full. We had some times together when they weren’t full and were in fact bare as a baby’s behind. Times when we could afford baby food for Annie, but we lived on ketchup and French fries.
Today we are not rich by anyone’s standards, never were, but we have all we can eat, more alcohol than we consume and all the cigarettes we can smoke, so she and I both feel quite wealthy. Oh, and we can have any cookies we enjoy and as many as we want. There is no one to say you can’t have anymore cookies, cigarettes, alcohol or food. God has been good to us lately.
We have our love, decent health for our age, have a great family and have our creature comforts. What else really matters?
God has been good to us, even in the tough times we made it through by the grace of God.
