The SentinelAll the news that's fit to print and some that's not. |

This reporter loves this movie. It was made on the back lot of Warner Brothers studio at a time in WW-2 when the studio cranked out a new movie every week, but this movie took 1.5 years to hit the theaters. It was written, rewritten and scenes were re-shot to make it the wonderful movie it is. At the 75th anniversary of its first showing, the movie had been shown more times in theaters than any other movie in history and that is probably still in effect today. |
Nothing is all bad or all good. WW-2 cost untold numbers of deaths and yet afterward it made the USA the best economy the world had ever seen. Maybe this new great depression will have some benefits. The people of this country may learn not to spend every every dime they make when they are only making a nickel. They just might learn to put some money aside for the next pandemic or next depression when they lose jobs again. This great depression has 36 million people out of work. During the original great depression there were barely 36 million people in the country. Unemployment was at 20% of the nation. Right now we are at 15% and that number will increase soon. This reporter sees at least 20% and likely more before this depression ends. During the original great depression there were horrific bread lines at soup kitchens that fed those starving. This great depression has millions lined up in cars for miles to get a few days of groceries from food pantries. Same thing all over again. This too will pass. To quote Winston Churchill, "America always does the right thing after they try everything else." We will get through this because we are Americans and we are innovative, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. There will be a set back in states that reopen for business too soon and people go to bars and restaurants and mingle shoulder to shoulder without wearing masks, but as Joyce said this morning,"that will thin out the herd."

It is this reporter's understanding that another stimulus package is in the works, but the president has already said, "it is dead on arrival at his desk." It is also my understanding that that means it will go back to the senate and they will have to vote to override the president and suffer his ire or not override the bill and suffer the ire of the ballot box in November. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens. My hope is that the senate will override the presidential veto and give the working man/woman some help, but time will tell.
