Joyce likes to watch all the political shows on TV and she tells me that with factories being shut down around the world and people not driving as much as normal that the air is already becoming cleaner. That sounds good to me. Our weather here seems to be averaging 15 degrees cooler than normal this year. Could it be that with less fossil fuels burning that mother nature is already cleaning up mankind's messes? Nature has a way of coping when it is not overpowered by pollution from man-made fuels. This could be a lesson for us to begin the transition to renewable energy like solar and wind turbines. I have seen that several companies are working on new designs for battery systems to better store solar energy for times when the sun is not shining enough to keep energy flowing. The companies are coming up with some clever designs that use natural forces to assist in energy storage. We could be on the cusp of great innovation to save us and our planet. That is unless the powerful oil industry doesn't shut them down as they have done with many things before. I understand we are supposed to be a country with free enterprise, but when do we stop these free enterprise companies that block new sources of energy and thus promote old systems that are on schedule to kill the planet and life as we know it?

Perhaps with families being sequestered together as they are at the moment, there will be a new more cohesive unit that improves life for all of us. With less jobs available, maybe families will learn to live on just one salary and a parent, be it mom or dad will be at home raising the children as they were raised many long years ago. Things might get so much better. Civility could return once again. Children could be educated with family values. With both parents not working 60 hours a week, coming home, feeding the kids junk food takeouts and then putting the kids to bed so parents can collapse for an hour and try to recharge for the next grueling day, they might learn to enjoy their children once again. Some of Joyce's fondest memories are of being home with our daughter making things for Christmas because we had no money at the time. Another of Joyce's memories is the joy of having time to cook a nice meal for her family. |
This reporter has read that the simple solution to a problem is usually the best way to solve that problem. The world, the computer, the internet and everything else has become so complex that things can be frustrating at times. This moment in time has put us in a situation that has not existed in 102 years since the Spanish flu pandemic that killed 675,000 Americans and 50,000,000 world wide, 1/3 of the world's population. The last figure I have heard is 80,000 deaths from Covid-19 so far. That is not a good number and the pandemic is not over yet.
