America Has Gone DigitalWe have become what this reporter wants to call a hermit society. I realize young people still gather at restaurants and bars, but they always have their phones out and instead of looking at each other they are looking at their digital devices. I cannot fathom being on a date with a young woman that a young man somehow found and yet they sit in a darkened restaurant looking at their phones and not staring starry-eyed at each other. How does one form a relationship without gazing into each other's eyes and drinking in the beauty of the moment? Perhaps the old reporter is just not up with the times. Still I can't imagine what young people are missing? When this old man took his bride, we had no phone, no TV, no money, so all we had was each other. Without becoming crude here, we got close to each other a lot! That closeness has lasted 56 years now and still grows because we still gaze into each others old eyes. We don't look as we once did, but despite that we still enjoy being together and actually talking without a phone.

Human AdaptabilityWe humans live in our normal routines 90% of the time and then there are the 10% of times when everything changes! We don't like rapid changes in our lifestyle. They are inconvenient and distressing, but here is the thing, when rapid change occurs we go through 3 phases. The first is shock, our world seems to have been turned upside down overnight. The second is acceptance of the situation. The third is adapting to whatever has happened and then it becomes the normal and we are back into the regular 90% routine and we are happy once again.

The WeatherSpring at last and none too soon for this old reporter. The winter season here was not too bad. We had little snow and ice, but it was very cold for this old man's bones. I finally had to break down and get an electric blanket and sure enough it worked by bringing in the spring weather after just days. Hopefully it will last for a while before the heat of summer comes busting out all over. This old dog has just one comfort range and that is 72-76 degrees Fahrenheit or 22.2-24.4 Celsius for our overseas readers.
