Covid-19 World War 2.3

The Sentinel

All the news that's fit to print and some that's not.

World War 2.3

Only a nuclear war or another conventional world war can top the loss of life the world is facing at this moment. I have dubbed this 2.3 just like the software updates on your computer or mobile device is labeled when you get those updates.

As of this moment there are 11,201 deaths across the world. That number will surely go higher, probably by an order of magnitude. This reporter is following CDC guidelines and staying at home. Me being a more solitary person, I can handle it well. I do note here that so many young people should fare being alone well as most young people these days are constantly on their mobile phones, even when they are with other people, so they should have no problem staying home and binge watching their favorite series on their device or TV. That is good, while they may have little symptoms and weather the storm well enough, don't forget that grandma you so don't take your germs to grandma town. You could kill her and she has probably already spent your inheritance trying not to be a huge burden on you.

Five & Dime stores

Most of you readers do not remember or were even born when there were five and dime stores in America. They existed and they sold a multitude of things for 5 or 10 cents. They were great stores with most small items a person or especially a child would want.

Can you imagine a full store packed with merchandise that all sold for less than 10 cents? This reporter, when he was a child, pocketed a 5 cent item from a Ben Franklin store and now 70 years later I still regret it. I can only hope that was not the reason they all went out of business. These days there are 5 & 10 dollar stores, which shows us how our currency has devalued and suffered from inflation.

This reporter's mother always wanted to work in one of those 5 & 10 stores, but she never got to do so, however she did work at Walmart after she retired on Social Security and that finally satisfied her need for a low budget store.

Learning Things that are now worthless decades later.

This reporter studied electronics when amplifiers were all vacuum tubes. They no longer exist. TV repair, no one gets TV sets fixed unless they are still on warranty. English grammar, which is seldom used.

This reporter studied 2 years of Latin, no one has spoken Latin for centuries now. He also had 2 years of Spanish and never had someone to speak it with except a bartender when ordering Dos Equis cerveza por favor. Of course now that would be a wonderful language to learn.

No learning is a waste of time, but my list above comes close.
