I was remembering this today. Back in 1966 my navy buddy Roy had a Harley Davidson Sportster that was awesome. We took a road trip from San Diego to Palm Springs and back in one day. Another guy in the squadron, Harrison Root (or hairy root as we called him) bought an old police special Harley at the police auction. He went with us. His old Harley
only had 3rd gear and higher and hardly any brakes left on it. Roy and I would take off on his Sportster and Root would be far behind trying to get his cycle moving in 3rd gear and all of a sudden he would come flying up from behind and catch us. We were headed back and Root fell far behind after we had all stopped for a cool drink and a stretch of the legs. Roy and I were far ahead of Root, but we stopped to wait for him at the junction of the old 395 highway. We were on a rise at the side of 395 waiting for Root to catch up. Now 395 was a busy 4 lane highway and the Sunday traffic was heavy. Root came racing up to the junction and saw us waiting on the rise for him. He was doing a very high speed as he pulled off to the rise, but he had no brakes at all and went airborne over all 4 lanes of the highway, right between the lanes of traffic. It was hysterically funny to Roy and I. Root managed to land the bike on the other side of the highway and Evil Kinevil would have been proud of him. I often wonder what the drivers in those cars whizzing by thought as they saw an airborne motorcycle flying across the highway in front of them.
Lately there has been a commercial about a medicine for people with Parkinson's disease. One of the things that those people have is hallucinations (seeing people they have known) due to the disease. Joyce was wondering if they really are hallucinations or if they are people they know that are gone from the present but are time warping back to see them? I hadn't thought about that, but who knows for sure?
We are eating wheat bran cereal for breakfast these days. Mine is plain, but Joyce has and likes the kind with raisins. I don't know, but I think raisins taste like shriveled grapes to me.
