Congresses pay 1807

Congress raised their pay from $75,000 to $141,000 in the year 2000. The reason they said was because it was expensive to move families to D.C. Now they make $174,000, but few actually have their families living in D.C. They make 4 times the median income of $49,000 for a family in this country, yet they cry poverty. That $174,000 comes with as much time off work as doing work. They also have wonderful free health insurance, countless perks of the job and a retirement package beyond all but beyond the biggest CEO's in the country. From what I could find researching was the average congressman has about 1.5 million dollars in assets and more in homes in their district. The new supreme court nominee has a 1.3 million dollar home in Texas, not bad for a man who makes 220,000 dollars a year and has a mortgage that is 4 times his annual salary. The congressional pay has raised well beyond the American workers (according to the Huffington Post) whose pay has declined in recent years. So what the devil has happened here?
