Joyce was up about 0230 this morning watching TV to try
and cool off. She saw a news piece about how on-line retailers manipulate
prices depending on the device one uses to access the internet. She told me
about it this morning and I investigated the tale only to find out it is true.
Internet retailers use web browser cookies to find out what you have shopped
for in the past and where you are from and what type of device you are using to
access the net. It turns out if you use a Mac Book Air to shop you will see
higher prices offered because people who buy the Mac Book Air generally have
higher incomes. Your zip code is also in the mix, because the zip code reveals
the income bracket you live in. I know this sounds weird, but it is apparently
true. Here is the web site I got verification from and this is not a new thing. http://lifehacker.com/5973689/how-web-sites-vary-prices-based-on-your-information-and-what-you-can-do-about-it they do give some information about how to avoid paying too much, but the steps
may be a little difficult to follow. Suffice to say it does happen and you may
save by following the advice. One thing I thought was interesting and easy to
do was always check prices on your mobile phone after using your computer. The
prices can be different and know travel sites are the worst place to book hotel
rooms. You can go directly to the hotel site you want on your computer and get
a cheaper rate than any travel site like Experion or Orbitz. I found that out
years ago.
