Sons and daughters get lost in a war
Politicians stand, rant and rave, kill the infidel, slay the knave.
The God of Abraham chose his people.
Poems and plays often glorify war.
If man was created by a God from above,
His teachings tell us to love and to pray,
I’m no man of letters; I hold no doctorate of theology.
We’ve lived through centuries of history on this land,
Brother Bill
We look back and wonder; what was it all for?
A moment of madness, a call to war,
We look back and wonder; what was it all for?
The world and all we must save.
They shout out slogans with rancor and ire,
But where are their sons, in the line of fire?
They pray at the wall, and guard the steeple.
The God Allah orders his people.
Destroy the wall and blow up the steeple.
They lionize Battles fought in lands afar.
But those who lose children in the battle spin,
They always question, what did we win?
Wouldn’t that seem an act of love?
If God made man, just for combat,
Wouldn’t he give us a plan for that?
And be thankful to him, for every day.
He tells us not to covet, lie, steal or kill.
But rather we should follow his almighty will.
All I know is what I’ve read, in the book God gave to me.
I’ve read the works of gifted men, who lived upon this earth.
None advocated war and suffering, but rather love and mirth.
And through all of the killing in all of the years, we still don’t understand.
