I walked into the building, I had seen two trucks outside, so I figured there would be two men working in there. I heard them working, but didn't see them.
I walked by the counter that would be manned with a person giving directions or answering questions for visitors. I looked down at the carpeting, it was a hideous dark brown. I was hoping the rooms would not have the same.
I turned and started walking down a hallway. The first 3 rooms were locked and had a paper saying the room was ready for occupancy. The 4th room was open and I walked right in. The hideous carpeting apparently is the same everywhere.
The bedroom was 10x13, but the closet in the room took 2x8 feet, making the bedroom 8x13. I didn’t care for that. My bed is 6 feet, leaving only 2 feet to walk around it. My things I would need for living would crowd the room dramatically.
The living room is 10x10, the rest of the room to the entry door is not what was advertised. It had a huge sink at the entry door that takes up a lot of space and why? There was supposed to be an added closet, not a sink.
I’m not ruling the place out, but it’s not looking good.
I went to the bathroom first. It was gorgeous, with a walk in shower. The toilet was diagonally across the room. I wondered why they used 25% of the entire apartment for a bathroom that was mostly empty? My bathroom in the apartment is 8x5 and more than adequate.
The opposite side was supposed to have a mini kitchen with a small refrigerator and an electric stove and a cabinet, but there’s nothing there.
516 square feet sounds okay, but put a few things I will need in there and it’s very crowded.
Sounds very confining Bill but you would probably spend more time out of your place with all the other folks living there for meals and conversation etc…
ReplyDeleteIt's half the space I live in now.. I don't use it all, but I never feel cramped here. 516 square feet is not much living space. Here I can and do shuffle things about just to have a different setup. There it would not be possible. I haven't made up my mind yet. I can afford living where I am, I don't know what it will cost there. There's no one there to speak with, except with the robot that asks for your email and that's all. When the building is finished I'll get to speak with someone there and find out if I can afford to live there.

I think I'd like a bit more space for perhaps a visitor or two. Is there even room for your tai chi and other floor exercises? I would ask to view a locked room as it seems those were probably 100% completed before I made my decision.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I don't have visitors except for the kids and that's infrequent. It's going to be months, if not another year before the place opens and I get to talk with someone who knows the score. If the cost is high enough, I won't need to make a decision, they'll make that for me. When I got out of the hospital a while back, I was recovering rapidly. Lately I'm finding it more difficult to get out and walk any distance. This getting old and frail is not a good thing.
