I didn’t see the rockets red glare
It was hanging right where I left it.
I didn’t see bombs bursting in air
My ears gave proof through the night that someone was out there
I opened my eyes this morning and my star spangled banner was still there.

Not sure what time you attempted sleep dear poet, but in my neighborhood it was much quieter than normal after 11pm. I drove to the local neighborhood market the next morning after walking the dog. Not only did I not see the customary fireworks on the curbside awaiting removal, I had not seen them on the walk as well. With the holiday falling on a Saturday most are not interested in picking up that night, or not at all. The firework stands did not seem as busy this time around. Maybe not as much to celebrate.
