We drove up to David’s home and we were welcomed By him and his lovely wife Nancy. David had done well for himself as an entrepreneur building up businesses and then selling them. Nancy was a teacher. The two of them had several children and those children had their own children, making for a big happy family. Nancy prepared us a wonderful supper and we felt quite welcome there. David and I caught up with old stories.
It got late in the afternoon and David led us over to “The Shack” as he and the family calls it. We sat on the sands with our toes in the cool water of lake Winnipesaukee. David headed for home while we were to stay in the shack for the night.
John and I sat by the lake and had some beers along with a couple of John’s wacky tobacky smokes. We fell asleep on the beach. We were awakened in the wee hours of the morning by 3 young ruffians who decided to harass us old men and make off with our beer. Well John didn’t take that lightly. He quickly dispatched 2 of them and only slightly harmed the last 1 so he could drive the others back home.
In the morning we drove the truck back to David’s home. Nancy served us a nice breakfast and plenty of coffee. I bid my farewell to them and went out to the truck. John decided he liked the town and was going to stay there for a while. I fired up the old truck and headed south toward warmer weather.
