240726 The Wyrick Family

Me watching our first corn crop start to grow on the farm.

Now on to the Wyrick family.

The Wyricks were a large and well known family in the community.

They owned an 80 acre farm. They raised Holstein cows that are great milk producers and the Wyricks sold their milk. They also reaised a lot of chickens and sold eggs.

The Wyricks were the family who built the old farm house that Joyce and I eventually purchased 67 years later. The house I have written about recently.

The Wyricks eventually died off down to one old man who was nearly blind. He could not possibly run the farm and good help was impossible to find, so the last of the Wyricks sold off the house and the eighty acres at auction.

A farmer, Mister Jones who owns a large dairy farm next to and behind the farm Joyce and I purchased bought the entire Wyrick farm including the house and I understand it was at a low price.

Mister Jones and his family were well known as shrewed businessmen as well as good farmers. Mister Jones kept 60 acres for himself and cut the other 20 acres into two 10 acre lots. One was bare land the other 10 was where the farm house is that we bought. Jones sold the two lots for enough money that made the 60 acres he kept totally free to him.

I don't mean to denigrate Jones, he made a smart deal and while we lived at the farm he was a good neighbor to us.
