231116 Consider This

Big chain stores like Walmart, Aldi, Ross and TJ Max provide us with lower prices and greater variety. At the same time, they have driven the little stores out of business. Those little mom and pop stores helped build small towns across America. After the little stores closed, small towns became ghost towns after business districts shut down and people moved away. Now all we have are the big box stores left.

The little stores paid their help a living wage and the towns prospered. Now the big chain stores have lots of jobs, but they don’t pay a living wage, so workers have second jobs to get by on their meager existence.

Median weekly earnings of full-time workers were $1,118 in the third quarter of 2023. Does anyone think that anyone working at the big chain stores makes anything close to that wage unless they are managers?

We consumers have gained more purchasing power from the chain stores, but the average worker there is locked in chains when it comes to making a living. I think that is a sad event for our country.
