220520 Time

Chicago

I was listening to an old song from the group “Chicago Transit Authority” this morning. The title is ‘Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is.’ It’s an interesting and good song.

Do we really need to change the time on clocks these days? The act was officially enacted here in 1966 with the ‘Uniform Time Act.’ Despite the act states like Arizona do not do daylight savings also U.S. overseas possessions do not all recognize it. In states like Missouri daylight savings puts kids outdoors in darkness waiting for school buses to pick them up. Does that make sense for an arbitrary time change?

The Ancient Sumerians were the first to determine what time it was with sundials, but then when that civilization died off for millenia, no one is sure who decided what time it was. Pope Gregory XIII, pope from 1572 to 1585 changed the entire calendar. What was that all about?

I agree with Chicago, does anybody really know what time it is? We aren’t even sure what month or year it is. It’s all subjective. As the Amish say every morning, “Time for milking.” I suppose that’s the only time they acknowledge. As for me, I know and recognize it's five o’clock somewhere.
