Long Life
Pain
Contenplation
Now that I have gotten old and have constant aches and pains, I think about those who never had the gift of a long life. All of the wonderful memories in my mind were denied to those who never got old. It is something to consider when we wake up every morning. Joyce and I have been married 57 years, much longer than many people even live. I am thankful for our gift.
It may be difficult for most people to consider pain as a gift, but consider this: without pain we could be walking on a foot that was cut or bleeding for some reason and lose enough blood for us to die. Injuries without pain would not let us know there was something wrong and that could cause further injury that could debilitate us in the future. A broken rib could become so severe it could sever an artery or the heart and then another way to die.
Without the ability to sit and think about things there would be no solutions to issues that make our lives better. For one thing, I would not be able to use my computer, (there would be no computers) . Animals have a limited ability beyond their instinctive behaviors to rationalize thought as we do. Contenplation is a marvelous gift.
