Your Sentinel news for today, Google, Graphine and the Bishop 200521

The picture below came from a long trip we made to Saint Louis years ago to see Shaw's garden there. We happened to get there when there were African craftsmen on tour and this was one of their creations. We got to watch them as they worked with hand chisels creating more like this. I would highly recommend that if you are ever in Saint Louis, Shaw's garden is a memorable experience, or at least it was 30 years ago.

Google 

        In it's infinite wisdom has after the last update and cleansing decided to change the way my posts are displayed and I do not like it at all! Until I can figure out a workaround and that may never happen, the format will be different, but it's still me. I suppose google is becoming more like windows computers with forcing changes on people who are perfectly satisfied with things as they are. Bear with me while I try to figure out how to get things back to normal. 

Graphine

        I just saw this last night on You Tube and thought it was great news for cell phone users. We all probably know what graphite is, especially if you ever used a pencil. The pencil point is graphite. Graphite is a 3 dimensional atomic structure, in that it has length, width and height. Graphine is made from graphite that is crushed into a 2 dimensional material with just length and width. It is only 1 atom thick. When crushed it becomes stronger than steel. Just 2 layers of graphine will stop a bullet. What we are interested is the fact that it becomes and excellent conductor of electricity. A standard size cell phone battery has a 3000 milli-amp rating and it takes 1.5 hours to charge from 0 to 100%. Add a layer of graphine and it is enhanced so the charging time drops to 20 minutes; plus it keeps the standard lithium-ion batteries in our phones from overheating and they can be charged many more times and hold the charge  for longer battery life. Add 2 layers of graphine  and it can charge a 10,000 milli-amp battery from 0 to 100% in just 50 minutes. The company that came up with the idea for this is called Real Graphine Co. They are supplying Samsung company with sheets of graphine for them to put onto their cell phone batteries. As Real Graphine Company grows and improves they can license the world manufacturers with their own graphine batteries.

The Bishop's Wife

       This movie was made in 1947. It stars Cary Grant and Loretta Young. In my estimation it is one of the best ever made. Grant plays an angel who comes down to help David Niven (the bishop). I have watched it many times and it always makes me feel good. There are some special effects in the movie that are very good for a 73 year-old movie. I am not sure there were any better for that time frame. It is available on Roku free and it's worth watching.
