I had been thinking about writing books for children. Those and romance novels are the biggest market in the publishing industry. I went to the library and sat in the children's section in a tiny cramped chair as I thumbed through books to get an idea of how to write them. I found some good ideas there as the children continued to stare at me for invading their spaces. I thought I might be okay with a book, but was stymied when I realized I needed some good illustrators to make it work. I did get some good ideas for a book I would title "Harold the Toad." Below are some ideas I put together from kid's books there.
Harold was the biggest, fattest toad in the pond. It was a very nice and beautiful pond that was the envy of all toads in the other ponds. Harold was a toad who thought he was the smartest toad in the pond, but he was not. He got so fat because he always talked other toads into doing his work for him while he spent his time with the pretty girl toads in the pond. He was not always the big fat toad, in fact he was once a regular toad. One day he decided he deserved to be the leader of all toads in the pond because he thought he was so smart. For years the other toads laughed at his idea and thought he was just a big silly toad.
The laughing by the other toads in the pond caused Harold to seek revenge on those laughing toads in Harold's pond, but how could he do that? Harold got the idea to go over to a very sad pond and get the help of toads over there who did not know Harold but would help him become the leader of his own pond. The toads from the other big pond were happy to help Harold ruin his own pond because they were jealous of Harold's pond and how well the toads there lived and enjoyed toad life.
The toads from the other pond silently crept into Harold's pond and began to say bad things about the leader there and talked about how bad life was in Harold's pond. At first the toads in Harold's pond did not believe what they heard, but the bad toads kept telling lies and eventually convinced Harold's pond toads that things were bad when in fact they were not bad. After a long time Harold became the leader of the wonderful pond and immediately began to make things as bad as the toads from the other big pond had said about Harold's pond.
Life became so bad for the toads in Harold's pond that the toads finally realized that Harold was a very bad toad and he had brought the toads from the other pond into his own pond to ruin life there just so Harold could be the leader. Slowly, but surely the toads in Harold's pond got together and ran off the bad toads and then took Harold's leadership away from him and sent him away from their pond forever.
Now I need to find an illustrator.
The End
