The storm hit us last night with strong winds and rain. It rolled in like a high speed freight train at 1920 hours and knocked out the power immediately. It was a genuine Nor-Easter, ripping shingles off the roofs and scattering debris all over the grounds. We sat in dead silence, watching its reign of terror evolve. As darkness set in on us we started to get concerned about our freezer contents and fresh foods in the refrigerator. Joyce being ever the girl scout grabbed her flashlight and headed for her candle supply. She had bought a case of them in preparation for the Y-2 K event that occurred at the stroke of midnight December 31, 1999. She still had some left even after our two weeks without power in the January 2007 ice storm and dragged them out again last night. At 2130 the lights came back on and we had some partially melted ice cream.
That was just over two hours, but it got me thinking. Our government knows the Russians have been probing our infrastructure for years now, looking for ways to blow up generators and knock our the power grid, and our financial network. The hacking war has been going on for more than two years now. If they can blow up our electric grid with a computer key stroke it would cause a blackout across the country. The generators would take weeks, months and possibly years to replace. You can't just drive over to the Ace hardware store and buy another 100 ton electrical generator, (our own CIA did an experiment and succeeded in blowing up a 50 ton electrical generator they purchased by a remote computer, they are controlled by PLC's as I wrote about just yesterday) generators have to be manufactured and that is not an overnight operation. After a few days or a week of no power, people would be breaking into grocery stores for canned goods and supplies and water. Without electric, there would be no pumping stations for water, for gasoline, no cell phone service, no WI-FI no internet. There would be total chaos across the country. Unlike when a hurricane hits the south land and supplies can be sent from a different part of the country, this would be no help, nowhere.
It turns out the weapon of mass chaos and destruction is what we rely on every day, electricity.
Get some candles and stock up on ammo, it could happen any day now.
