I was quite embarrassed in the laundromat the other day. We were there washing and drying our clothes. It turns out the carts there have steel upright rails and rubber wheels and those wheels build up static. That, combined with the nylon winter jacket I was wearing when I tried to open the door on the dryer with my right hand and my left hand still on the then static charged rail, I arced a spark that was an inch long from my finger to the dryer door. The snap was loud enough to hear, but when I blurted out, “son of a bitch!” You could have heard a pin drop in the facility and every head turned. It was a totally reactive response and one I hope not to repeat.
