Not such a good day so far. Joyce and I got into the car to go and have the addresses changed on our driver’s license and car license at the DMV. We were just out of the parking lot when an alarm sounded. The dash display said: “engine malfunction, service immediately.” We were just a quarter-mile from the Ford garage. We pulled in there and the service adviser immediately said they would take a look at it. It was about 15 minutes later he came into the waiting room and said they had just received a service bulletin about that event. It has something to do with a wire behind the dashboard being able to come loose. He said they would have to remove the dash and make a repair, but they could get it done today.
Now the good news is, despite the fact that our bumper to bumper warranty just expired in April, he said it would be covered under warranty. So that has started to make the day a little bit brighter.
As we sat anticipating the diagnosis in the waiting room, I was not surprised at what I saw. If you read my post “How it Happened” on July 28, about how people in the same space can be there and yet not be anywhere but on a smartphone or tablet, then you would not be surprised that everyone else in the waiting room was sitting there playing on a phone, tablet or computer. I was moderately shocked that it has already become the norm.
