Doe and Fawn
Yesterday we had an unusual thing happen. I got up at 8 AM and walked down the back steps to the patio. I heard a strange sound that was like the bleating of a goat. I walked a little further out into the driveway and saw a two year old doe at the fence of our neighbor's pasture across the road. I could not figure out why she was doing that. When I went in the house to get my camera, she was gone. That afternoon our daughter Annie saw a tiny fawn walking up and down the fence line across the road. Then it all made sense. The doe had her fawn over there and when she hopped the fence to come back over here, the fawn was way too small to jump the fence. We recognized the doe as one who has lived here and gave birth to the fawn here. The doe kept coming back across the south lawn to the edge of the driveway and looking at the fawn through the late afternoon. Finally she called the fawn and the fawn discovered it could fit through the field wire fence. About 7:30 in the evening the fawn made it through the fence and rushed to its mother to nurse for the first time all day. Picture is below.
That was a beautiful sight.
On that note here is another nice sight to see. This is our Mimosa tree in the front yard. It is in bloom and is great.
