Wednesday February 5, 2014 I watched a program on PBS last night. It was about the Amish. They live off the land and that is fine. They seem to live in the 17thcentury and want to keep things that way. The problem is that their kids do not want to live that way. If their children try to leave, they are shunned by the parents and not allowed to return for indefinite periods of time and sometimes forever. I fail to understand a religion that purports to believe in God, but not in forgiveness. They seem to act more like a cult than a religion in my opinion. How does a child, a teen, traverse from the 17th century into the 21st century overnight? It baffles me, but so many things baffle me these days.
