I must admit that there are times
When I like to write silly rhymes
There are many poets around these days
They write their verse in different ways
Page after page with nary a rhyme
I can’t imagine why they waste their time
Without rhyme and meter it’s just a short story
Even if they’re words of heart and glory
I start to read and wonder, where are the rhymes
Is it he or me who has fallen behind the times?
All I have read in poetic lore
Always had a rhyme in store
Those that didn’t soon have a rhyme
Made me think, why waste my time?
