The UH-1 Huey was a mainstay of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. The U stands for utility and while that was the designation, utility seems like such a bland term for a combat machine. The Huey was used to deploy troops into landing zones, to ferry out wounded soldiers from those landing zones and a modified version was used as a gunship.
The first picture is the troop carrier in an early variant. Doors were removed in Vietnam for easy entry and deployment. There were also M60 machines added and used by door gunners to suppress enemy fire.
Later variants include the UH-1B variants including M60 machine guns, rocket launchers and 30mm cannons. Look at the armament below and wonder what this ship looks like to an enemy when these armaments start firing.
