Lockheed Super Constellation

This one I flew 900 hours in during 1965.

The Super Constellations from VW1 on Guam were used for fleet radar coverage overnight in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam war. They were also used to track typhoons in the western pacific.
The Super Connie squadron at Barber's Point Hawaii flew airborne early warning during the cold war years. They flew from Midway Island to Alaska 365 days a year scanning for Russian intruders.
While B52 bombers from the Air Force Strategic Air Command were always airborne in case the Russians attacked the U.S. the Super Constellations extended the Canadian radar line to warn of a Russian attack.
