Douglas A4D on USS Forrestal

The A4 Skyhawk was the sports car of the skies in the sixties. Senator John McCain was flying one when he was shot down over north Vietnam. It was the only carrier based aircraft I know of that did not have folding wings. I can remember watching them shoot 20mm cannons at drogues trailed behind the USS Kitty Hawk. They were known to run the Ho Chi Mihn trail, firing and dropping bombs on bicycle riding suppliers heading into south Vietnam.
