I wanted a simple phone, one that I would only make or receive calls, nothing else. I selected the most basic phone the company had, an old style flip phone like the ones back in the late 80’s. The phone arrived and I called the company to help me set it up. A representative came up and we started texting, my computer to hers to get the phone set up. Nothing she told me to do worked. We spent 46 minutes texting back and forth. She finally said: “What I can do is set up your phone from here. I’ll have to turn off your present phone to enable the new one.” I was okay with that, so I quit texting her and waited for her call. Big Mistake!
I waited an hour and never got a call. I went back online, texting with a different rep. I texted her and told her to ditch the flip phone and reconnect my other phone. She texted back and told me she would reset the sim card so my old phone would work again. She texted back and told me it would take 24 to 48 hours to get that changed and get me working again.
So far it has been 18 hours and nothing yet. I am realizing how important having a phone is. It’s a part of my life. I can’t live without it. If I can get to Walmart today, I’m going to get a cheap tracfone as a backup to use in case something like this ever happens again.
Waiting, waiting, waiting.
Sounds like a big cluster blank!
ReplyDeleteIt absolutely was. The switch back to my original phone took 30 hours to happen. That said, I was very happy to have phone service again. At my age I need a phone in case I have some catastrophic event and I need to call for an ambulance.

It is a shame that we just can't seem to live without one of these strapped to our hip 24/7. If I ever get out of business I will most certainly have much less to deal with as I will at least be down to one phone and it is private so not many have that number. I do however still get the typical "you signed up for....." which if you are not in my contacts I usually don't pick up on unknown calls. The exception will be if I have an issue with my bank or the airbnb then I watch for those to come across. But most others I just block and send to spam. Not that that does alot of good because those robo calls still come in. We're so screwed!
ReplyDeleteKathy, I feel the same way and have the same problem. I can't count how many times I've gotten those spam calls. I block and list them as spam, but they just keep using a different phone number to call with. I get some that say your $900 dollar order from Walmart seems a large amount. Please call this number to confirm or deny this order. This is a part of our lives these days. Even back in the days of landlines hanging on the wall, I was getting spam calls at times. My dad used to say if criminals spent their time doing good things instead of bad things, they would do well for themselves.
