Joyce's Christmas interior decorations for 2004. With only 10 days until Christmas, do you have your shopping done?
I am ¾ of the way there and I think I have things under control. It’s easier to shop for me these days because my family is nowhere near as large as it once was. That said, it’s not a happy thing, but it is what it is. Joyce and I used to begin shopping in early November. We would meet after work, stoke up on Starbucks espresso coffee and begin racing from store to store looking for what we thought was the perfect gift for family and friends. Whether it was or was not, we did our best and hoped for the rest.
When Joyce was still alive, our Christmas started a week before the day when we bought a big turkey. She let it thaw in the refrigerator until Christmas morning. We would be up before dawn prepping the turkey. The innards were still frozen. It was my job to remove that big set of hooks that were holding the bottom of the turkey together. I had to use a pliers to twist and turn and release them and then try to remove the giblets still frozen to the inside of the bird. Joyce would have the stuffing ready to pack into the turkey and put it into the oven. We would then have our coffee and go back to bed for an hour or two. We always had a houseful of guests, both family and friends. Twenty plus was the usual number. Joyce made 10 or more side dishes to round out the menu. The finished meal spread across an island counter and an antique buffet we had. The drinking and dining went on all day and into the night. A good time was had by all.
