72 years ago today

Thousands of young men barely 20 years of age
Died on the beaches of Normandy in a fiery rage
They stormed ashore with little combat training
While German fire from ramparts came raining
Germans wanted to push them back into the sea
Brave American men determined that was not to be
A holocaust of death soon ensued
In a bloody battle of will so crude
Cemeteries there are filled with American men
Still honored by those who remember back then
Our wonderful way of life to this very day
Made possible by those who lived and died that day

Let’s not forget those and all other veterans and what they have done for us.
