Midway 1942

U.S. navy airmen saved the day at Midway in June 1942. Despite heavy losses of poor performing torpedo planes and even worse performing torpedoes, naval aviators gave up their lives to defeat a superior Japanese fleet and begin to turn the tide in the Pacific war. The U.S. navy destroyed 4 Japanese carriers and several support ships to save Midway Island.

This is who we were and who we are still. May God bless the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

These Grumman TBF avengers were introduced in 1935 and were obsolete by 1940. They were slow and poor performing, but were all the Navy had in torpedo planes to confront the Japanese. Of several squadrons on board Navy carriers nearly all were lost at Midway. The planes were so bad, they were only used for reconnaissance flights after Midway.
