250412 Saint Louis

Saint Louis, Missouri is running ads to visit there.

The ads are very slick and they may get a lot of people to visit there this summer. I would advise you not to do it. Saint Louis proper is in the top tier of the country for murder and crime. Saint Louis is not what it once was.

There are lots of wonderful attractions to see, but getting to them may be hazardous. Shaw’s garden is a wonderful place to visit. Shaw was a wealthy man and his multi square garden is a wonder. The Shaw house there is magnificent. The pictures below are from Shaw’s garden.

I was raised in a small town adjacent to the city of Saint Louis. Downtown shopping was great as long as you got out of there before dark. I went back through Saint Louis 30 years ago and it was hazardous then.

Long ago, back when the wild west began as you left the Saint Louis city limits. The west was opened up for settlers and cattlemen. People from every state east of the Mississippi headed to Saint Louis, the gateway to the west. Saint Louis became a wealthy town because everyone heading west bought all of their supplies for the trip there. The riverfront was the richest area in town. There were mansions built along the riverside. Those mansions were still there and we got to go through to see them. They were magnificent! They were all for sale. They all had 12 foot high ceilings with windows 10 feet high. There were big rooms and every home had huge walled lawns and a carriage house in the back of the yards.

The architecture of Saint Louis was copied all the way to California.
