What Determines Our Value in Life?

I was thinking about what it is that determines our value this morning. How do you and I stack up in this world? Why is this person or that person any better or worse? We all eat, drink, go to the bathroom every day and much in the same way. We all love something or someone or both, so there is no distinction there that makes one person stand out of the crowd. We all have jobs we do, even welfare people work; they just work the system. All of us work at what we do. I have worked at places where people worked as sycophants and I hold no grudge against them as they did what I could not knowingly do. Some people work on high wires, some work on their backs, but we all work. You may be thinking right now that an athlete stands out because of his/her ability, or a wealthy man/woman is great because of their wealth and that certainly can be a justifiable logic, but there is an underlying thing that in my mind is the real reason why people stand out. I think more of the guy who hauls our trash away each week than I do of Donald Trump. Now why do you think that could possibly be true? It is very simple to me. In my book, the trash guy, the electric guy, the truck driver, the supermarket worker, the mechanic, the casino worker, the factory worker, the doctor, the nurse are all better than the Donald. The Donald is highly regarded by those in his circle for the same reason. I have lived my life without the Donald and likely will continue to do so. I hope you are still reading at this point. If you are, and if you have not figured out the reason, think about it for a minute before you scroll down and see my answer to what I think determines a person’s value in life.

Our value in life is determined by what we do for others. All of the workers I mentioned do something for me. The Donald makes a lot of money which does a lot for those in his circle in return. In all cases I can think of it is what we do for others that determines our value to them. The athlete, the rock star, the movie star provide valuable entertainment to all of us. I can only hope that my value to you is in my brief ramblings that I send and that they provide a few moments of entertainment to you, obviously not in the superstar vein, but something to look forward to on occasion.
